Contribution of women to household income and effects on the allocation of family spending in Bolivia

This document investigates the second level, from the role and power of women to the allocation of resources available to households. For this reason, it is limited to the scope of bi -parental families with children, which allows an evaluation of the negotiation of the main couple of the household with respect to household spending decisions.

From the relational level, it is considered that the power of women lies in the economic autonomy that is verified from the woman’s ability to generate and contribute income to the household.
Under a family model of negotiation, the woman can affect an allocation of household resources that favors investment in the capabilities of the couple’s sons and daughters, compared to other family models of a single income earner, in this case the husband or spouse.
